Privacy policy
Last updated October 13, 2026. Daphne is operated by Dowling Development LLC, an Alabama limited liability company. This explains what Daphne collects, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have.
Information you give Daphne
- Account: your email address.
- Preferences: allergies, ways of eating and things you leave out, favorite and disliked foods, who you're feeding (numbers of adults, teens and kids, big eaters, lunches), weekly budget, meals per week, cooking time, cleanup, equipment, cooking skills and your chosen store.
- Lists: the lists Daphne builds for you, items and meals you add, items you remove and why, swaps, check-offs, and the cooking steps written for your meals.
- Pantry (when available on your plan): items you check off, say you have or add yourself, the date, the product, how much you said is left, any use-by date you give, and what Daphne learns about how fast your household goes through each item.
- Recipes (when available on your plan): recipes you save, including names, servings, ingredients, notes and category.
- Meal feedback: whether you'd make a planned meal again.
- Shop together: invite codes you create (they expire after two days), who is in your household, and what's been checked off on shared lists.
- Kroger account link (only if you use Send to cart): an access pass from Kroger, stored encrypted, limited to adding items to your Kroger cart.
- Daphne Insights choice: whether you've opted in, and when.
Information created as you use Daphne
- Sign-in codes and sessions, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. Codes expire after 15 minutes and are deleted within a day; sessions last 30 days and are deleted after they expire.
- Usage records: how many lists, adds, lookups and other requests you make and what they cost Daphne to run. These enforce daily limits and keep costs in check.
- App activity: which screens and setup steps you open and actions like opening a meal, rating a meal, linking Kroger or starting the app tour. Daphne uses this to see what's working and fix what's confusing. It isn't shared or sold.
- Product scores Daphne computes are stored by product, not by person, and are shared across all users.
Emails from Daphne
Daphne emails you sign-in codes and, when needed, important notices about your account or the service, such as a change to this policy. Emails are delivered through Cloudflare to your email provider, which keeps its own copies.
The website and the waitlist
getdaphne.app uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It doesn't use cookies or track you across other sites.
If you join the waitlist, Daphne keeps your email address, your first name and zip code if you give them, when you signed up, and the browser type and referring page your browser sends with the form. Daphne sends you a welcome email and occasional updates about Daphne, and new signups are emailed to the Daphne team so we can follow up.
Every waitlist email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing deletes your signup, and so does deleting a Daphne account with the same email. You can also ask by emailing [email protected]. Waitlist information is stored with Cloudflare and isn't sold or used for advertising.
Daphne Insights (optional, off by default)
If you opt in (in your profile, or when you first agree to the terms), Daphne may include your shopping activity, like ingredients on your lists, what you check off, foods you dislike, meals you'd make again, and your household size, budget range and clean-score setting, in de-identified, aggregated trend reports.
Those reports may be shared with or sold to food brands, retailers and researchers. They never include your name, email, account ID, allergies or other health details, or your exact location, and any figure based on fewer than 20 people is left out. Daphne doesn't try to re-identify anyone from these reports and requires anyone who receives them not to try either.
You can turn Insights off any time in your profile. From then on your activity is left out of new reports; reports already made contain nothing that identifies you.
What Daphne doesn't do
Daphne doesn't use your device location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers. It doesn't track you across other apps or websites and doesn't show ads. It doesn't sell or rent your personal information, and it doesn't share it for advertising. Anonymous trend reports are made only from people who opt in to Insights.
How it's used
To build and update your lists; to plan more variety from week to week (using your recent meals, what's in your pantry and meals you'd make again); to remember your choices; to run Shop together and Send to cart; to keep the service secure, enforce limits and fix problems; to understand what's working; and, only if you opt in, for Insights.
Service providers
- Anthropic, PBC (AI): your preferences (including allergies, ways of eating and who you're feeding), foods you've said you dislike, text you type to add items, the ingredients of recipes you save, the names of products and ingredients it checks against each other, and a dish and its ingredients when you ask for cooking steps for something you added. Your email isn't sent. Daphne asks for your permission before sending anything.
- The Kroger Co. (product and store data): search terms, your store, zip codes you search, and product numbers Daphne looks up. Nothing that identifies you. If you link your Kroger account, you sign in on Kroger's own site, and Kroger receives the products and quantities you send to your cart. Kroger's privacy policy covers your Kroger account.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, database, email delivery, website analytics): stores and processes all of the above on Daphne's behalf.
- Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry, crash reports): when the app or service hits an error, the error message and where in the code it happened, the screen or address it was on (without anything you typed), the app version, and your device model and operating system. Reports never include your account, email address, preferences or anything you entered, and Sentry is set not to store IP addresses.
- Apple or Google, and RevenueCat, Inc. (subscriptions): if you subscribe, Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) handles payment. Daphne gives RevenueCat an account number (not your email) to connect your subscription, and receives your subscription status, plan, dates and changes, never your card or billing details.
Daphne may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or others. If Daphne is ever sold or merged, your information would move with it under this policy.
People you share with
With Shop together, the people you invite see your lists, check-offs and the cooking steps for your meals, and see you by the first part of your email address. They can check things off, save your meals into their own recipes and send your list to their own Kroger cart. They can't change your plan. You can remove someone, or leave a household, any time.
Allergy and health information
Allergies can be sensitive health information. Daphne uses them only to filter products, choose recipes, understand what you add and write cooking steps, and shares them only with Anthropic for that purpose, with your permission. They're never part of Insights and never sold.
How long it's kept
As long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your information (and any waitlist signup with the same email) is removed from Daphne's database immediately. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days.
Some things live outside Daphne: Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep their own purchase records; Kroger keeps your Kroger account and cart (to fully disconnect, also remove Daphne in your Kroger account settings); and emails stay in the inboxes they were sent to. Anonymous interpretations of typed-in items, which aren't linked to any account, are kept for up to 30 days so common requests are answered faster.
Your choices and rights
From your profile you can edit preferences, turn Insights on or off, export a spreadsheet of what Daphne holds about you, and delete your account. Daphne needs your permission to use AI to build lists; to withdraw it, delete your account. You can also email us to ask what Daphne holds about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, and Daphne will honor them.
Children
Accounts are for adults 18 and over. Daphne isn't directed to children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their information. You can tell Daphne how many kids you're feeding; that's a number, not information about any child. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and it will be deleted.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Sign-in codes and sessions are stored hashed, and Kroger access passes are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but Daphne keeps what it holds to what it needs.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date above will change, and significant changes will be shown in the app before they apply. Questions: [email protected].
